ROOT is an online beginners photography workshop for people who want to take >> good << photos. Not just put-the-camera-on-auto-and-hope-for-the-best photos; not it’s-too-sunny-and-I-can’t-fix-how-dark-the-people-are photos; not oops-it’s-blurry-again photos. Photos that are intentionally captured, thoughtfully documented, and consistently beautiful.
ROOT isn’t just the technical stuff, it’s the art stuff. Anyone can google what the buttons on a camera do. But we also teach you how to consider different spaces + lighting situations so that you can always be documenting (your life, your business, your family) in the best way possible.
50% of all proceeds from the online ROOT workshop go to a local non-profit.
We get to have fun while learning + make a difference while doing so.
"I've had my DSLR for over eight years, but it wasn't until I attended ROOT that I finally felt confident in how to use it. I didn't walk out of the workshop instantly knowing everything I could, but for once I actually felt inspired to explore my camera and to practice. ROOT covered the core technical concepts, but also the core artistic concepts, like "light" and "storytelling". I've been practicing non-stop ever since, and actually enjoying the process of exploring my camera. It really helped me make sense of what I was doing" // Amber, Spring 2018
"ROOT is fantastic! This was a very helpful intro to photography for me, as someone who was a true "newbie" to my dSLR and wanting to learn some basics to get me off "auto mode" and into a more creative space with my camera! Jacquie was a fun, engaging, creative, and super knowledgeable facilitator for this workshop! Definitely recommended" // LJ, Summer 2017
"Root is a workshop for anyone that gets both excited and overwhelmed when they look at a DSLR camera. Soon you'll know how to "tame the beast" of the camera and take amazing photos... all within a few hours! I still reference what I learned at the workshop whenever I look through a camera viewfinder. :)" // Dan, Summer 2017
